About us
We see public libraries as playful spaces for critical thinking and active citizenship.
Escape Misinformation in the Library (ESC-MISINFO) is a European project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
Running from 2025 to 2027, the project aims to strengthen young Europeans’ critical thinking skills in navigating today’s complex digital media landscape – combating misinformation and disinformation, with a focus on climate change. Through game-based learning activities and co-creation, we want to empower public libraries to embrace their role in non-formal education and youth work.
Escape room-style games, participatory workshops, and peer learning initiatives will equip young people with the tools to critically assess digital content, question sources, and understand the impact of online narratives – especially those related to environmental issues.
Over the next two years, ESC-MISINFO will also contribute to building the capacity of public libraries across Europe, helping them to become active hubs for youth engagement, digital literacy, and democratic participation.

What we want to achieve
ESC-MISINFO focuses on three main objectives:
- Equipping public libraries with the skills and tools to run inclusive, game-based media and information literacy activities for young people
- Enabling public libraries to engage young people through co-creation on the topics of misinformation and climate change
- Promoting and disseminating innovative non-formal education practices, creating a European community of practice around game-based media literacy in libraries.
Over the next two years, the project will:
- Localise two escape room games about misinformation and AI
- Develop a beta version of an escape room game on climate misinformation
- Develop a comprehensive toolkit for public libraries with co-creation frameworks and game-based media and information literacy methods
- Train 18 library staff and direct engagement of 180 youths in Belgium (Flanders), Slovenia, and Poland.
Our activities
Throughout its two-year timeline, the project partners will deliver an exciting mix of local and European-level activities including:
Escape room pilots
- Localisation and piloting of two escape room games in 9 public libraries in Slovenia, Poland, and Belgium.
- Engaging 180 young people in immersive, game-based learning about misinformation and climate change.
Training & capacity building
- Training of 18 library staff in Slovenia, Poland, and Belgium to lead game-based MIL activities.
- A webinar series for wider outreach and knowledge sharing among educators and youth workers.
Co-creation & peer exchange
- In-person and online peer learning sessions between young participants.
- Co-creation workshops to adapt escape room content to local contexts and youth interests.
